Abstract
Motor disability is one of the most serious consequences in leprosy patients. Although this disease was declared by the WHO as a public health problem and the actions taken have helped to reduce its spread, leprosy is still present in the 21st century.
Untimely access to adequate care and the current belief that the disease has disappeared have led to an alarming number of cases in Colombia.
Disability prevention is key to diminish the effects of the disease.
Exercises for the prevention of disability in people affected by leprosy (PAL) presents a scheme of exercises based on Orem's self-care theory. Thanks to its methodology and simple activities, it contributes to the prevention of disability caused by the disease and rehabilitation of those affected by leprosy.
